About
Nestled between the roar of Iowa’s second largest city and the productive hum of our nation’s richest farmland lies a special place for wildlife, plants and people. The land where Native Americans fished and elk and buffalo roamed, is the Indian Creek Nature Center.
Our Mission
The purpose of the Nature Center is to promote a sustainable future by:
- nurturing individuals through environmental education
- providing leadership in land protection and restoration, and
- encouraging responsible interactions with nature
Learning and Leisure at Indian Creek
Learning and leisure opportunities abound for groups, families and individuals. Volunteers compliment the organization’s small staff to provide a wide variety of programming and events. The Nature Center, Iowa’s first, has been declared a National Environmental Study Area by the National Park Service and includes two national recreation trails – the Sac and Fox and the Cedar Greenbelt. The Sense of Wonder Trail, designed especially for children to play in nature, is a certified Nature Explore Classroom, the third in Iowa and 33rd in the nation.
