Inside you'll find our famous frozen soups and cookie doughs, baked goods and candies, vendors with gorgeous gift ideas, and Noel's Attic. Come early for the best selection. Santa shops here! Sponsored by the Nature Center Guild. All proceeds benefit the Nature Center.

* Holiday Blood DriveHoliday Blood Drive

Time: 3:00 pm

Blood supplies are stretched thin over the holidays so we've invited the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center to set up a collection site at the Nature Center. As a special bonus, we're offering A Pint for A Pint. Donate a pint of blood and take advantage of the special price of $10 for a pint of real maple syrup (regularly $14). The drive will occur between 3:00PM and 6:30 PM. Plan to spend 45-60 minutes--naturalists will occupy your children while you donate. Advance registration is important! Call 319-362-0664 to reserve the time you wish to donate.

Webelo Workshop Be a geologist for a day! Explore exciting careers in geology, discover fossils to take home, experiment with minerals and travel back in time to learn how our planet has been shaped and reshaped. Fee is $8 per scout. Complete registration instructions and forms available on Scouts webpage. This program is FULL and registration is CLOSED.

Time: 1:00 pm

Many of us are unprepared for a natural disaster that could shut down utilities, stores, roads, and other services. This program addresses how to prepare for such losses for at least a week. It will include emergency food preparation, storm protection, preventing home freeze-ups, and more. M: $6, NM: $8.

Do you have a pet cat or dog? Come learn about their "wild" cousins. Find out what bobcats and coyotes have in common with your pets and each other. See if you can tell these carnivores apart by their skulls. For preschoolers and their parents. Cost: $5/M child; $6/NM child; adults admitted free. Limited to 14 children. Shooting stars are always a marvel. Grab a warm blanket, bring some hot cocoa and a lawn chair for a shower of celestial magnitude. As we wait for the constellation Gemini to move into perfect position, enjoy a tour of the night sky and discover some wonderful winter asterisms, constellations and other treasures the night sky holds. What's Hoppin' In? Ribbit and his friends come to the Nature Center for a winter adventure! Bring an indoor picnic to enjoy at noon or join us at 12:20 for storytime with Grandma and Grandpa Storyteller and have an adventure of your own! Space is limited so be sure to call and register in advance! Program is geared for children aged 3-7 years with an adult. * Decorate A Tree For The BirdsDecorate A Tree For The Birds

Time: 2:00 pm

It's great family fun to create edible outdoor tree decorations that the birds enjoy! Create pinecone feeders and suet treats, string popcorn and cranberries, and more for our feathered friends. Decorate a tree at the Nature Center or take your treats home for your backyard birds. Register by 3:00 PM on Thursday, Dec. 13 so we have adequate supplies! A geocache is hidden treasure you find using a high-tech GPS unit, and a geocache hunt is a fun outdoor adventure in any season! Learn to use a GPS unit while discovering the excitement of geocaching. Bring you own unit or call ahead to reserve one of ours. A snowshoe hike is great winter exercise with the added bonus of fresh air, beautiful scenery and signs of wildlife to enjoy. Bring your own snowshoes or call ahead to reserve a pair of ours. Time: 2:00 pm

Some birds are residents year around while others migrate to Iowa for the winter. Learn who's who, build a feeder from recycled materials, visit our bird blind and walk to the Cedar River in search of eagles. Dress for the outdoors! Fee: M Adult: $4; NM Adult: $5; Child: $2. * Full Moon WalkFull Moon Walk

Time: 6:30 pm

Trees stand silhouetted in silver moonlight, moon shadows soften the trails, and mysterious rustling and crunches stimulate your curiosity. The woods are a wonder-filled place to wander on a winter evening. Dress warmly and join a naturalist for a moonlit adventure. Fee: M: $3; NM: $4 Advance registration important.
