Salute to the Guild!

April 30th, 2012 by

Two ICNC Guild members get their table ready for the annual Spring Plant Sale at the Nature Center.

We have a wonderful group of volunteers who put together two of our largest fundraisers of the year – Nature’s Noel in December and the Plant Sale in May. These (mostly) ladies put months and months of planning into these events and just do a fabulous job. And although they mostly prefer to stay behind the scenes, we wanted to say thanks and let them know we just couldn’t do this without them!

Shoppers look for the perfect plant

Come out this Saturday – May 5th – from 9AM until 12Noon for our annual Plant Sale.  Native annuals and perennials, hosta, wildflowers, prairie grasses are available, as are herbs, peonies and other beautiful, healthy plants. Yard art and rain barrels also on sale. Get here early!!

The rain barrel wrap up… or is it?

July 10th, 2010 by

Unless you were asleep (or otherwise busy with your fabulous life), you probably know that we sold and distributed quite a few rain barrels this spring – 600 to be exact!

The rain barrel sale was a fundraiser, but more than that it was a big part of our spring watershed initiative. Indian Creek Nature Center has a place in its heart for keeping a few extra gallons out of the Cedar River and Indian Creek, one rainstorm at a time.

We pre-sold the barrels and received them in two very large shipments. But what do you do if you still want one of our amazing Mobys?

Call us up (362-0664) and let us know! The plan is to keep a small number of Mobys in stock this fall and winter. The small batches will increase the price a little ($110 instead of $100), but it will mean that you’ll get to install your barrel and collect that sweet summer rain!

Update: We’re famous! Check out the wonderful spot that KWWL had on the rain barrels Friday night!

Meet Moby.

Meet Moby, the Nature Center‘s new best friend!

This 65-gallon rain barrel is made of sturdy recycled plastic and is a key player in ICNC’s new watershed initiative. By the second anniversary of the 2008 flood, we hope to have saved one million gallons with the help of Mobys all over Cedar Rapids and beyond.

Itching to know more (or order your very own Moby at an awesome discount)? Visit RainBarrelProgram.org and watch this blog for more details!

Ways to help: Just a click away

December 2nd, 2009 by

Recently the Nature Center received an exciting check in the mail. It wasn’t a large amount ($5.47 to be exact), but it was a product of the efforts of some of our loyal members.

GoodSearch is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates 50% of its profits to charity. That ends up being about a penny for each time someone searches in the name of their charity.

How does it work? It’s easy! Go to GoodSearch.com, and enter “Indian Creek Nature Center” as the charity of your choice. Each time you return to GoodSearch and use the search engine to find something online, a one-cent donation is made to ICNC. (If you want to get really fancy, add the GoodSearch toolbar to your web browser!)

And that’s it. No cost to you, no extra effort. Easy!

So what do you say? Can we break $6.oo next year?
