Youth Programs
Any youth group or organization is welcome to schedule a program at the Nature Center. Descriptions and fees of the programs offered are listed in the general program brochure.
If you would like to have a program that will help fulfill badge or achievement requirements not listed on this web page, please call and speak with a naturalist. We would be glad to work with you on any nature-related topic or skill that we can.
If you have any questions about available programs or the Nature Center or are ready to schedule a program, call (319) 362-0664. Groups are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. After-school and weekend programs are subject to staff availability.

Naturalist-Guided Hikes
Naturalist-guided hikes are one hour (or longer, if prearranged) walks through Nature Center habitats. The leader will stop along the route and help participants notice, understand and appreciate facets of nature. Groups are invited to visit the building in addition to their reservation if they are there during business hours
(M-F 9:00am-4:00pm).
The fee for a one-hour hike is $2.50/person; there is a $40 minimum fee.
Groups should make their wishes known if they want specific topics emphasized.
Maple Syruping Time!
The Maple Syrup Festival is an annual family event held the first full weekend in March. Groups may visit the Nature Center in late February through March to learn the history of syruping, the physiology of a tree, how to identify maples and more. Experience tapping a tree, gathering and boiling sap and tasting delicious maple syrup!
Reservations are required for this program. The fee for a one-hour program is $3.00/person with a $30 minimum.
