Sustainability
In October 2005, the Indian Creek Nature Center began implementing a strategic initiative to provide leadership in land protection and restoration, expanding the Nature Center’s work to provide long-term, healthy ecosystems that benefit wildlife, the environment, and future generations.
Leadership in Land Protection and Restoration
To provide leadership in land protection and restoration, the Indian Creek Nature staff and board are committed to be well educated and passionate and to care for the environment at every opportunity. Projects include:
- Preserving healthy ecosystems.
- Publicize restored areas that belong to the Indian Creek Nature Center, detailing what has already been done.
- Conserving resources and recycle/reuse.
- Educate and assist land owners regarding how and why to protect and preserve natural ecosystems and open space on their land.
- Educate and assist land owners regarding how and why to restore and maintain natural ecosystems.
- Leverage our resources, voice and influence through collaborations.
- Promote land protection and restoration and ICNC’s other mission objectives by accepting planned gifts of land and by purchasing properties that strategically expand the land base owned, managed or protected by ICNC in a manner that advances one or more of the objectives set forth in the ICNC Mission Statement.
- Educate (and advocate before) community decision makers.
