A five-day senior nature camp for campers who have completed 4th grade and up. Camp runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Exploring Iowa's natural history and learning how to interpret what you find requires unique skills and tools. This camp will equip you with both! A different topic each day - Geology, GPS, Archaeology, Wildlife Forensics and Survival in the Wild. It's an awesome week of fun and adventure. Cost: \$150/M; \$180/NM. Space is limited. For centuries, humankind has celebrated the sun's journey on the longest day of the year. Join the Nature Center and Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center as we share traditional solstice celebrations from various world cultures. Discover unique "suncatcher" plants that grow along our prairie labyrinth and create a suncatcher of your own. Enjoy music and participate in a salute to the setting sun from our prairie. Program is at the Nature Center and will be moved indoors if there is rain. Program will last 2 hours. A free will offering will be collected, no fee. Registration is required. Join our professional staff on a spelunking experience into Iowa's underground. You will discover cave formations, learn how caves form, an have a grand adventure! Limited to 12 kids. Grounds and trails open daily from sunrise to 10:00 PM year ’round.
Driving Directions
From Downtown Cedar Rapids
Take 8th Avenue/Mt. Vernon Road SE east to Bertram Rd. SE (Touch of Class Banquet and Convention Center will be on your right - Bertram Road is at the far edge of their parking lot). Turn right and follow Bertram Rd. across Indian Creek. Turn right after bridge (5 ton limit). Continue about one block to our parking lot on the right. Buses and trucks must take an alternate route. Buses and trucks from downtown should turn right at 44th St. SE (County Corners Western Store is on the left – this is a gravel road). Take 44th to Otis Road. Turn left. Indian Creek Nature Center is at the next intersection.
From the Iowa City Area
Take I-380 to Highway 30 East (exit 16A). Go six miles to Highway 13 North. Go two and a half miles to Bertram Rd. SE, where you will see an Indian Creek Nature Center sign. Turn left. Go one and a half miles to the corner of Otis and Bertram Roads.
From North of Cedar Rapids
Take I-380 to Highway 100 (Collins Rd exit). Go East on Highway 100 to East Post Road. Turn right. Take East Post Road to Mt. Vernon Road SE. Turn left on Mt. Vernon Rd. Follow directions for From Downtown.
From the Marion Area
Take Highway 13 South to Mt. Vernon Rd. SE. Turn right. Go one and a half miles to Bertram Rd located by Touch of Class Banquet and Convention Center. Turn left. Follow Bertram Rd. across Indian Creek. Turn Right after the Bridge (5 ton limit – buses and trucks follow directions in From Downtown section.) Indian Creek Nature Center is on your right just one half mile further at the intersection of Otis and Bertram Roads.
There are signs directing you to the Nature Center at the following intersections:
- Highway 13 & Bertram Road
- Mt Vernon Road & Bertram Road
- Bertram Road & Otis Road
The parking lot is across from the Nature Center. Enter the lot from Bertram Road.
